Here are some tasty Vietamese sweets that you can try. I always am intrigued what people in different parts of the world eat for sweets. And looking up sweets from different countries is my favorite part of this series.
So without further ado, here are some popular sweets from Vietnam.
Che Troi Nuoc – Glutinous Rice Dumpling Dessert
This desert is a kind of glutinous rise dumpling. It is filled with mung bean paste and cooked in sweet ginger syrup. The name of this translates literally to “Floating on Water.” This is because when this dessert is boiled, the balls rise from the bottom of the pot to the soup’s surface. It is usually served hot with white sesame seeds on top, and sometimes occasionally with coconut milk.
Banh Trung Thu – Traditional Vietnamese Moon Cake
This delicious desert is prepared from wheat flour with fillings of mug bean paste. dried sausage, jam, and any other desirous ingredient. It is a very veritable in terms of fillings, basically having any sort of variety. So this dessert can taste very different depending on the taste of the maker.
Banh Cam- Vietnamese Sesame Balls
If you want something more rich, then these Vietnamese Sesame balls will be sure to deliver. This delicious dessert is deep fried, offering a crispy golden glutinous outer shell and is filled with sweet mung bean paste and covered with white sesame seeds.
Ban Chuoi Nuong – Baked Banana Cake
This dessert is a popular street dessert among the local Vietnamese. It has a slightly sweet flavor with a hint of coconut flavor. It has a different texture from traditional banana cake or bread. It has more of a bread pudding with a custard like texture. It is made mostly with ripe bananas, stale bread, and coconut milk.
