Welcome back!
We are continuing our series of Famous Tea rooms across the world. Today we will be looking at Famous tea rooms in Korea. I realized that I was all over the place. From now one we will be going to be covering the Asian countries, then move towards the Middle East, Eastern Countries, and finally stopping in Brussels, France, and Spain.
So come join me as we learn about all the tea rooms in Korea. I wish I was able to get more information about these tea rooms, but I can’t read Korean yet, so most of these review will be coming from Trip advisories rather than the actual tea room websites.
The first tea room we will be looking at is:
Gahwadang Tea house
The name of this tea room means, ” A home with a beautiful picture.” This tea room is located in Samcheongdong and is a traditional tea house. the menu consists of traditional Korean teas and refreshments. Traditional Korean tea is served and the refreshments include grilled garaetteok (rice cakes) and hangwa, traditional Korean confectioneries. Each table has a small note pad and colored pencils just in case you should be inspired with agreed ideas during your tea time. How sweet is that? I certainly would love to experience this tea room sometime in the future.
Banjiak Binnaneum
This tea room is a popular place for tourists and even the locals. The popularity of this tea room is from the tea house’s fusion beverages, such as black beans smoothie or patbingsu ( black bean ice). However to get a taste of true Korean tea authenticity, try their ssuktangcha. This tea’s main ingredient is a special ssajuari (mugwort) from Ganghwa Island that has been aged for four years in sea fog. Give their injeolmi rice cake served with bean powder a try with this tea. This would be the most authentic tea pairings in Korea.
Yatchatjip Tea House
This is one of the oldest ( and probably the one of the most famous) tea house in Seoul. One enters the tea house though a verdant garden. Sometimes the visitors are greeted by the resident parrots who occasionally speak to the passerby’s. I would love to see the parrots. That would be quite something in a tea room. And having a view of the garden would be an enchanting experience.
Tteuran Tea House
With large glass windows, this tea room boasts of peace and tranquility. There is a serene and relaxing atmosphere cultivated in this tea room. This would be the perfect choice after a particularly long day at the office or to have a pleasant conversation with a friend. Just writing about this tea room makes me want to go and visit right now.
I hope you enjoyed this exploring of tea rooms in Korea. Someday I hope to visit all of these tea houses that I put in this series, “Famous tea Rooms” I hope you too were inspired as well to travel to see these tea rooms in person one day.
Have a great week,
Alyssa
